Parlez.app – How to Select Cards

Parlez’s practice portal practice.arlez.app offers five practice cards on the main menu, each designed for a different type of practice. This guide helps you choose the right card and use it effectively.

1. French Pronunciation Coach

Goal: Refine your pronunciation

Plan: Free

AI Greeting: Bonjour, Prêt à pratiquer votre prononciation? Dites-moi ce que vous voulez dire et je le répéterai pour voir si je comprends. (Hello, ready to practice your pronunciation? Tell me what you want to say and I’ll repeat it to see if I understand.)

Instruction:

• Head to practice.parlez.app. After you log in, select the 1st card <French Pronunciation Coach>.
• Read any French sentence of your choice out loud. For example, “Bonjour”, “Comment ça va ?” etc.
• If the AI tutor understands you, it will repeat your sentence and encourage you to continue with the next one.
• If it doesn’t understand you, it will offer a suggestion to help improve your pronunciation.
• You can repeat after the AI or move on to a new sentence.

2. French Fluency Boost

Goal: Become fluent with common phrases.

Plan: Free

AI Greeting: Bonjour, Prêt à pratiquer les phrases courantes? Je parlerai en anglais et vous traduirez en français. De quoi aimeriez-vous parler aujourd’hui ? (Hello, ready to practice common phrases? I’ll speak in English and you’ll translate into French. What would you like to talk about today?)

Instruction:

• Head to practice.parlez.app. After you log in, select the 2nd card <French Fluency Boost>.
• When the AI tutor asks what you want to practice, simply follow the Prompt Guide to say the subject you want to practice.
• The AI tutor will give you a simple sentence in English. You respond by translating the sentence into French.
• If your answer is correct, the AI tutor will praise you and move on to the next sentence.
• If your answer is incorrect, the AI tutor will provide the correct translation and ask you to repeat it out loud.
• At any time, you can ask to change the subject and practice something different by saying: “Excusez-moi, Je veux pratiquer [un sujet], s’il vous plaît.”
• If you are having difficulty saying it correctly after several attempts, you can ask to move on to the next sentence by saying, “La prochaine phrase, s’il vous plaît.”

3. Practice French Numbers

Goal: Get familiar with French numbers

Plan: Standard

AI Greeting: Bonjour, Prêt à pratiquer les nombres en français ? Veuillez répéter après moi les phrases qui contiennent des chiffres. Voulez-vous pratiquer les nombres simples ou les grands nombres ? (Hello, ready to practice numbers in French? Please repeat after me the sentences that contain numbers. Would you like to practice simple numbers or large numbers?)

Instruction:

• Head to practice.parlez.app. After you log in, select the 3rd card <Practice French Numbers>.
• When the AI tutor asks what you want to practice, simply follow the Prompt Guide to say the numbers you want to practice.
• The AI tutor will say a sentence that includes a number in French. You repeat the sentence out loud.
• If you say it correctly, the AI tutor will praise you and move on to the next sentence.
• If your answer is incorrect, the AI tutor will provide the correct version and ask you to repeat it.
• If you are having difficulty after several attempts, you can move to the next sentence by saying, “La prochaine phrase, s’il vous plaît.”
• Sometimes the AI tutor may correct you due to the different format in your transcript—for example, “cinq mille” shows as “5 0 0 0” or “5 zéro zéro zéro”. You can skip this and ask to move on to the next sentence.
• If you want to practice your number listening skills, try not looking at the transcript. Instead, listen carefully and repeat only what you hear from the AI tutor.

4. Cracking French Conjugation

Goal: Master French conjugation

Plan: Standard

AI Greeting: Bonjour, Prêt à maîtriser la conjugaison? Je parlerai en anglais et vous traduirez en français. Quel temps verbal souhaitez-vous pratiquer? ( Hello, ready to master conjugation? I’ll speak in English and you’ll translate into French. Which verb tense would you like to practice?)

Instruction:

• Head to practice.parlez.app. After you log in, select the 4th card <Cracking French Conjugation>.
• When the AI tutor asks which verb tense you want to practice, please read our Prompt Guide for sample prompts.
• The AI tutor will give you a simple sentence in English. Respond by translating the sentence into French.
• If your answer is correct, the AI tutor will praise you and move on to the next sentence.
• If your answer is incorrect, the AI tutor will provide the correct translation and ask you to repeat it out loud.
• At any time, you can ask to change the verb tense to practice by saying “Excusez-moi, Je veux pratiquer [un temps verbal] , s’il vous plaît. ”
• If you are having difficulty saying it correctly after several attempts, you can ask to move on to the next sentence by saying, “La prochaine phrase, s’il vous plaît.”
• Because il/ils and elle/elles can sound identical in some verb conjugations, the AI tutor may correct your response and ask you to repeat it. You can skip and ask to move on to the next sentence.

5. Interactive Role-Playing

Goal: Practice role-play before real conversations.

Plan: Standard

AI Greeting: Bonjour, Prêt à pratiquer le jeu de rôle en français ? Quelle situation aimeriez-vous simuler aujourd’hui ? (Hello, ready to practice role-play in French? What situation would you like to simulate today?)

Instruction:

• Head to practice.parlez.app. After you log in, select the 5th card <Interactive Role-Playing>.
• When the AI tutor asks which situation you want to simulate, simply say the scenario you want to practice. Please read our Prompt Guide for sample prompts.
• The AI tutor will start asking you questions in French. Respond in French as you would in a real conversation. You can also ask questions.
• The AI tutor will reply and ask more questions to keep the conversation going.
• At any time, you can change the scenario by saying: “Excusez-moi, Je veux pratiquer [un thème], s’il vous plaît.”
